Slated for completion in Fall 2028, the project will dramatically increase the facility's healthcare infrastructure
Saint Alphonsus Health System today broke ground on the expansion of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Nampa, a project that will more than double the facility’s size in fast-growing Canyon County.
“By doubling the size of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Nampa, we are ensuring that Saint Alphonsus is ready to respond in the toughest moments for many years to come,” said David McFadyen, President & CEO, Saint Alphonsus Health System. “For communities to be healthy, care must be easy to reach. It must be close and it must be accessible. When you come to our door in a time of need – no matter who you are – the message will always be: Come in, we are ready to care for you.”
The expansion in Nampa, along with the recent opening of its Caldwell Health Plaza and groundbreaking of its North Meridian Health Plaza, reflects Saint Alphonsus’ effort to provide the Treasure Valley with a comprehensive ecosystem of facilities to bring most families within 15 minutes of primary and specialty care.
Canyon County is one of the country’s fastest growing counties, and according to U.S. Census Bureau data from 2020-2024, the area saw a 15.5% growth in population, adding more than 35,000 residents. With rising regional strain across the health care ecosystem, the Nampa hospital expansion will relieve pressure by expanding capacity, creating more access to inpatient and critical care and addressing beds per capita needs.
The expansion will more than double the hospital’s current size adding:
-Approximately 260,000 square feet of new space, including a new seven-story tower and a two-story vertical expansion of the existing hospital located at 4300 E Flamingo Ave.
-64 new medical/surgical and Intensive Care Unit beds.
-157 new inpatient beds
-Shell space for future growth and long-term community health.
“With growth comes increased pressure on shared infrastructure, including healthcare,” Clint Child, President of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Nampa. “Expanding our hospital at this scale ensures our community has the resources to grow, thrive and access the care they need close to home.”
The project is expected to be complete in Fall 2028.
In addition to expanding facilities, Saint Alphonsus continues to ensure Idaho has a trained workforce to care for the region’s growing population.
At the end of June, Saint Alphonsus will welcome the second cohort to its Nampa Family Medicine Residency Program, in partnership with Mountain States Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (MSIGMER). Research shows that many students tend to stay and practice close to where they complete their residency.
The health system also continues to collaborate with local universities and colleges including Boise State University, College of Western Idaho, Idaho State University, Grand Canyon University and others to fill the pipeline of high-need roles.
