Saint Alphonsus Health System was named to Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s best employers for healthcare professionals. Saint Alphonsus is the only healthcare system in Idaho to receive this recognition.

"We are honored to be included in Forbes’ first-ever list of America’s best employers for healthcare professionals,” said David McFadyen, President and CEO of Saint Alphonsus Health System. “This recognition is a testament to the power of the mission that Saint Alphonsus providers and colleagues share to act as a compassionate and transforming healing presence in the communities we serve.”

Saint Alphonsus is a faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare system whose roots in the Treasure Valley and Eastern Oregon stretch back to the late 1800s. Today, the organization employs more than 7,000 colleagues and providers, many of whom have built a career and legacy of healing. More than 20 percent of its current employees have been with Saint Alphonsus for at least ten years.

Methodology
To create this new list, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 17,000 employees working for healthcare and social services providers employing at least 1,000 people within the United States. Participants were asked how likely they were to recommend their current employer to others and to rate it based on criteria including wages, working conditions and schedules, career advancement opportunities and safety.

Survey respondents were also asked how likely they were to recommend a previous employer (within the last two years) and other healthcare organizations they knew through industry experience or through friends and family who had worked there. The responses were then analyzed and incorporated into a scoring system that also factored in data from the past three years of employer surveys at a lesser weight.

Ultimately, the 250 healthcare organizations with the highest scores made Forbes’ inaugural list, which can be found here.

Building a growing pipeline of healthcare professionals
The health system includes four medical centers in Baker City, Boise, Nampa, and Ontario, plus a wide network of urgent care and medical group offices throughout the region.

During the past three years, Saint Alphonsus placed a strong emphasis on workforce initiatives aimed at building a pipeline of healthcare workers and leaders, including strengthening partnerships with schools, growing workforce development programs, and focusing on career progression within the organization.

Earlier this year, Saint Alphonsus launched Idaho’s newest family medicine residency program with Mountain States Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research. The residency is designed to help train the region’s next generation of family medicine physicians.

And this fall, Saint Alphonsus continued its work to keep up with the region’s growth by opening its new Caldwell Health Plaza. The facility is home to more than 30 physicians and more than 90 colleagues, who provide care in more than 15 specialties right in the heart of Canyon County.
