Ron Martinez’s story is one of extraordinary survival and resilience following a catastrophic crash at the Sun Valley Tour de Force charity event. On July 20, 2024, Martinez and his friend Zach Alder were driving a Porsche 911 Turbo S convertible when they hit a bump at 211 MPH. The car flipped violently—reportedly up to 14 times—before coming to a stop.

Both men were airlifted to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Martinez suffered over 54 broken bones, a brain bleed, internal injuries, and a shattered pelvis. His survival odds were estimated at just 30–35%.

He was in a coma for 30 days and also suffered a stroke during that time.

His recovery was guided by a dedicated medical team, including:

Dr. Caleb Mentzer, co-director of the neurosurgical trauma ICU, who monitored his brain injuries and coma recovery.

Dr. Daniel Bechtold, orthopedic trauma surgeon, who reconstructed Martinez’s shattered pelvis.

Martinez’s wife, Susie, was a constant source of strength and faith throughout his ordeal. She referred to Dr. Mentzer as “Dr. God” for his role in saving Ron’s life.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Martinez has made a remarkable recovery. He credits his passion for Krav Maga and Taekwondo as a driving force in his rehabilitation. His goal is to earn a black belt, and he’s already back to training, hunting, and living life with renewed purpose.
