Media Access & Patient Privacy
Federal law (HIPAA) protects patient privacy. Because of this, reporters must provide the patient’s full name when asking about their condition. We can only share information after the name is given.
To request patient information, call: 208-779-0560.
In addition:
- Media must be escorted at all times while on any Saint Alphonsus hospital campus.
- This rule applies to all locations, including Boise, Nampa, Ontario, and Baker City.
- Cameras are not allowed unless you have approval from Public Relations or Security.
These rules help protect our patients' privacy and rights.
Patient Conditions
If a patient has not asked us to keep their information private, we will share a one-word update about their condition. Here is what each term means:
- Undetermined: The patient is waiting to be checked by a doctor
- Good: Vital signs are stable and normal. The patient is awake and comfortable
- Fair: Vital signs are stable and normal. The patient is awake but may feel some discomfort
- Serious: Vital signs may be unstable. The patient is very sick
- Critical: Vital signs are unstable. The patient may be unconscious and is in a serious condition
