About the da Vinci 5 Surgical System
The da Vinci 5 is the latest robotic-assisted surgical system from Intuitive. It is designed to help surgeons perform complex procedures with greater precision and control.
The da Vinci robot consists of three components – the vision cart, which makes communication between components possible; the surgeon console, where the instruments are controlled; and the patient cart, which is positioned alongside the bed and holds the camera and instruments.
The system provides high-definition 3D views and advanced technology that helps surgeons perform delicate movements more accurately. It also allows surgeons to better monitor pressure on tissues during surgery, which may help reduce tissue damage and improve recovery.
The da Vinci 5 system includes three main parts:
- Surgeon Console: Where the surgeon controls the robotic instruments.
- Patient Cart: Positioned next to the patient and holds the camera and surgical instruments.
- Vision Cart: Connects the system components and supports communication and imaging.
How Robotic Surgery Works
During surgery, your surgeon remains in the operating room and controls the robotic system from a nearby console.

Your surgeon stays with you: Using the da Vinci robotic system, the surgeon sits at a nearby console and controls the surgical instruments in real time. The robotic system does not perform the surgery on its own. Every movement is directed by your surgeon.
Magnified 3D imaging: High-definition views magnified up to 10 times, allowing surgeons to see the surgical area in greater detail.
Steady, precise movement: Built-in technology helps filter out natural hand tremors, allowing for smooth and accurate movements.
