Capitol Classic Race for Children Returns with a New Course, Same Accessibility for All
April 24, 2025Saint Alphonsus and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA lace up for the 41st annual fun run
The Capitol Classic Race for children returns with a new racecourse and the same important access for all on Sunday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m.
The 41st annual event, co-organized by Saint Alphonsus and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, will bring together nearly 1,000 children under the age of 14 years old of all abilities. The course is one mile and adaptive, beginning at the State Capitol and looping back to Cecil D. Andrus Park via Jefferson and Bannock.
“Kids who are active in childhood stay active into adulthood, and every year, the Capitol Classic brings together children and families from across the Treasure Valley to be active, get outside, and have fun -- all factors that contribute to improving the long-term health of our community,” said David McFadyen, CEO and President of Saint Alphonsus Health System.
Traditionally racers have run and walked from the Boise Train Depot to the State Capitol. This year’s new looped racecourse offers added opportunities for parents to catch their children in action, while accommodating construction efforts in the area.
Also new this year— an earlier start date. The event will be held before school lets out for summer, which organizers expect will draw more families ahead of vacations.
“Our racecourse may be new this year, but our mission to strengthen the health and well-being of our community’s youth through healthy activities continues,” said Treasure Valley Family YMCA CEO, David Duro. “We can’t wait to cheer on this year’s new and returning racers.”
For the fifth year in a row, IncludeAbility.org will partner with the Capitol Classic to provide free entries for youth with physical and/or intellectual challenges. IncludeAbility Race Buddies will provide extra support, encouragement and fun on the course and adaptive course.
Parking will be limited in the area and participants are encouraged to ride bikes, carpool, or walk to the event.
