Saint Alphonsus and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA join to celebrate youth movement and accessible fun

The Saint Alphonsus Capitol Classic Kids Run returns on Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m., offering another year of accessible, family-friendly fun for children across the Treasure Valley. Co-hosted by Saint Alphonsus and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, the event is expected to welcome nearly 1,000 children under the age of 15 years old, representing a wide range of abilities. The one mile and adaptive course begin at the Idaho State Capitol, travels along Jefferson and Bannock and finishes at Cecil D. Andrus Park, a loop that provides multiple viewing opportunities for families.

“Active kids are happy kids, and nothing shows that better than the Capitol Classic. Whether they’re boosting confidence, building strong bodies, or simply having fun with friends, this one mile run helps young people discover the joy of moving. It’s a celebration of health, community, and childhood at its best,” said David McFadyen, CEO and President of Saint Alphonsus Health System.

Racers will run and walk the looped racecourse that offers added opportunities for parents to catch their children in action.

“The Capitol Classic reflects everything the YMCA stands for—celebrating our youth, bringing families together and encouraging healthy habits early in life,” said David Duro, President and CEO of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA. “In partnership with Saint Alphonsus, we’re proud to host an event where children of all abilities can move, play, and achieve.”

For the sixth year in a row, the Capitol Classic will partner with IncludeAbility.org to offer free race entries for youth with physical and/or intellectual challenges. IncludeAbility Race Buddy volunteers will provide on-course encouragement and extra support to ensure every participant can experience a safe and joyful run.

Participants are encouraged to bike, carpool, or walk, as event-area parking will be limited.
