Military and Veterans Health Program
Military and Veterans (MILVET) Health Program
Supporting Military Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families
At Saint Alphonsus, we have a long history of providing compassionate care to the people in our communities. Part of that mission includes meeting the healthcare needs of military service members, veterans, and their families.
Our Military and Veterans (MILVET) Health Program was created to make it easier for military-connected individuals to receive high-quality healthcare that respects their experiences, values, and unique needs.
Our Commitment to Military and Veteran Care
Specially Trained Providers and Staff
Our doctors, nurses, and staff receive specialized training to better understand the military community. This training includes:
- Understanding military culture and the differences among military branches
- Recognizing health conditions and injuries related to military service and deployment
- Understanding how military service affects spouses, children, and other family members
- Providing respectful and compassionate care for women veterans and service members
Identifying Military-Connected Patients
We know it is important to recognize military service and understand how it may affect healthcare needs. To help us provide the best care possible, we include questions about military service on registration forms and in electronic health records.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment you arrive, we want you and your family to feel comfortable and supported. To honor military service members and veterans, each Saint Alphonsus hospital proudly displays the flags of the five military branches in its lobby. These flags serve as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice made by those who have served our country.
Recognizing Your Service
Military service members and veterans who choose to be recognized can let us know during registration.
During their hospital stay, they may receive:
- A small flag on their patient wristband
- A military recognition magnet displayed outside their hospital room
Community Partnerships
Our support extends beyond the hospital.
The MILVET Program works closely with local, state, and national veterans organizations to connect military families with helpful resources and services. These partnerships help ensure veterans receive the support they need both inside and outside of healthcare settings.
Advocating for Veterans
Advocacy is an important part of our program.
Saint Alphonsus is developing a MILVET Committee made up of veterans, family members, and veteran advocates. The committee will help identify challenges veterans face when accessing healthcare and provide guidance on how we can continue improving our services.
Our goal is to create a healthcare environment that understands, respects, and effectively serves veterans and their families.
