Hospitalist Services
What Is the Hospitalist Service?
The Saint Alphonsus Hospitalist Service is a program that provides care for adult patients in the hospital 24 hours a day. It is for people who do not have a regular doctor, or whose doctor cannot visit them in the hospital.
Hospitalists are doctors and nurse practitioners who only work in the hospital. Their job is to take care of patients from the time they are admitted until they are discharged. They are trained to treat many different health problems.
While in the hospital, a patient may see more than one hospitalist. These providers work as a team and share information to make sure the patient gets the best care. They also stay in contact with the patient’s regular doctor, if they have one.
Because hospitalists are always in the hospital, they can respond quickly if a patient or family member has questions or concerns.
Who Can Use The Service?
Any primary care doctor can choose to have the hospitalist team care for their adult patients while they are in the hospital.
When Is The Service Available?
They are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Patients can feel confident knowing a doctor is always available when needed.
What Does the Service Cost?
There is no extra cost. It costs the same as if your regular doctor visited you in the hospital.
