Saint Alphonsus announces historic Treasure Valley expansions
February 16, 2026
Saint Alphonsus Health System today announced plans to more than double the size of its Nampa hospital and construct a new 80,000 square foot medical complex in North Meridian. The projects represent a historic investment in health care infrastructure and jobs in the Treasure Valley.
These facilities, along with the recent opening of its Caldwell Health Plaza, help bring most families within 15 minutes of Saint Alphonsus primary and specialty care.
The ability to advance projects of this scale is possible because Saint Alphonsus is a member of Trinity Health, one of the country's largest not-for-profit, faith-based health systems. Being part of this national system allows Saint Alphonsus to leverage system resources that make it possible to fund major capital projects that directly address community health needs and the growing population. This important nonprofit affiliation ensures that rigorous community benefit standards are followed and the charitable mission to serve as a healthcare partner for the community is carried out with the full strength, accountability, and resources of a nationally supported, Mission driven health ministry.
“As the region grows, so does our responsibility to ensure that care is never out of reach,” said David McFadyen, President and CEO of Saint Alphonsus Health System. “These projects ensure that as the Treasure Valley expands, Saint Alphonsus is providing the access, capacity and innovation families deserve today and for generations to come.”
Growth predictions indicate the Treasure Valley will hit one million residents in the coming decades, making this expansion vital for ensuring current and future access to care.
Nampa Hospital Expansion
Canyon County is one of the country’s fastest growing counties, and according to U.S. Census Bureau data from 2020-2024, the area saw a 15.5% growth in population, adding more than 35,000 residents. With rising regional strain across the health care ecosystem, the Nampa hospital expansion will relieve pressure by expanding capacity, creating more access to inpatient and critical care and addressing beds per capita needs.
The expansion will more than double the hospital’s current size adding:
- Approximately 254,000 square feet of new space, including a new seven-story tower and a two-story vertical expansion of the existing hospital located at 4300 E Flamingo Ave.
- 64 new medical/surgical and Intensive Care Unit beds.
- Shell space for future growth and long-term community health.
Preparations have already begun at the Nampa hospital for the relocation of utilities to prepare the site for the upcoming construction. “This is a transformational moment for Nampa,” said Clint Child, President of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Nampa. “Expanding our hospital at this scale ensures our community has the resources to grow, thrive and access the care they need close to home.”
Groundbreaking for the expansion is slated for June 2026 and completion expected in Fall 2028.
North Meridian Health Plaza
Ada County has seen equally historic growth rates, and in areas like North Meridian, Star, Eagle and Northwest Boise, this growth has left patients further from care. Saint Alphonsus’ new North Meridian Health Plaza will create a major new access point for primary and specialty care in one of the fastest growing parts of the valley.
Located at the corner of Highway 16 and Chinden Road on more than 17 acres, the North Meridian Health Plaza will bring high-quality outpatient care within minutes of families across North Meridian, Star, Eagle, Northwest Boise and rural growth areas along the Highway 16 corridor.
“This project reflects our Mission-driven commitment to help people thrive where they live, where families grow, and where access makes a meaningful difference in their daily lives,” said McFadyen.
The build will include an approximately 80,000 square foot ambulatory medical office building with primary and specialty care, advanced imaging and more including:
- Family Medicine
- Pediatrics
- Urgent Care
- Cardiology
- Musculoskeletal, Orthopedic Urgent Care
- Surgical specialties
- Women’s services
- Outpatient rehabilitation
- Outpatient lab
- Imaging (X-ray, Mammography, DEXA, Ultrasound) and future space for MRI and CT Groundbreaking for the North Meridian Health Plaza is expected in late Spring 2026 with completion slated for late Spring 2028.
Beyond a Build
In the short-term, the projects are expected to create local job opportunities in the construction phases of the Nampa expansion and Meridian build. Once the new spaces are ready to serve patients in 2028 and beyond, they will be staffed by a workforce of providers and colleagues who are ready to care for families throughout the region.
To ensure a trained workforce is ready to serve current and future generations of Idahoans, Saint Alphonsus actively engages in the kinds of collaborative initiatives and partnerships that are necessary to fill facilities like the North Meridian Health Plaza and Nampa Medical Center expansion.
Examples of this ongoing work include:
- Opening of the Nampa Family Medicine Residency Program in partnership with Mountain States Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (MSIGMER), which will train an estimated total of 24 residents in Canyon County in the next four years. Data shows that more than half of residents tend to stay to practice medicine within 75-100 miles of where they completed their residency. By creating and growing residency programs in the state, it positively contributes to the future physician workforce.
- Ongoing collaboration with local universities and colleges including Boise State University, Northwest Nazarene, College of Western Idaho, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College, Treasure Valley Community College, University of Idaho and others to fill the pipeline of high-need roles.
- A partnership with Grand Canyon University, which creates clinical rotation opportunities to nursing students in their accelerated program. In its first cohort of 12 students, half plan to continue on after graduation with Saint Alphonsus.
“For more than 130 years, Saint Alphonsus has answered its calling to serve the region as a compassionate and transforming healing presence,” said McFadyen. “This expansion advances that Mission by strengthening access to care so that every community, regardless of geography, can receive the care and dignity they deserve.”
