Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

If your baby is born early or has a serious medical condition, you want the best care possible. At Saint Alphonsus, we provide advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns through our Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in Nampa and Boise.

NICUs are specialized hospital units designed to care for babies who need extra medical attention after birth. Our experienced teams use advanced technology and provide around-the-clock care to help babies grow stronger and healthier.

NICU Care at Saint Alphonsus

Level II NICU in Nampa

The NICU at the Birkeland Maternity Center in Nampa cares for babies who need additional medical support after birth.

This unit includes a team of experienced specialists, including Neonatologists (doctors who care for newborns) and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. The NICU is designed to keep babies close to their families whenever possible.

If a baby needs a higher level of care, the Nampa team works closely with Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, located about 15 minutes away, where the same Neonatology team provides support.

Level III NICU in Boise

The Level III NICU in Boise provides the highest level of newborn care available in Idaho. It cares for premature babies and full-term babies with serious medical conditions.

Our team of Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners provides 24-hour care and support. Families from across Idaho and eastern Oregon come to Boise for specialized newborn treatment close to home.

The Boise NICU focuses on family-centered care, helping parents stay involved in their baby's care and recovery.

• Certified lactation consultants to help with breastfeeding and pumping questions
• Family-centered care that encourages parents to participate in daily care discussions
• Support from the March of Dimes and trained volunteers
