Join us from the comfort of your home for this live, online, interactive class which will be facilitated via TEAMS.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Topics covered include:
• Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
• How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
• How to connect the youth with help
• Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
Location: Online – Self-paced modules and a link will be sent to you prior to the start of your class.
Note: Learners will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online course prior to attending online training and participate in a 6-hour, instructor-led training. The instructor led training will be facilitated via TEAMS
