Aortic aneurysms develop slowly over time and usually show no symptoms. If you are at risk of aortic disease or aneurysms, getting screened may help you identify concerns before they require emergency surgery.
Those that may be at risk for aortic disease
- Patients with a bicuspid aortic valve and/or murmur
- Former or current smokers
- Those with a family history of aortic disease or aortic dissections
- Those with an enlarged aorta or aneurysms of the aorta in any location
- Those with Marfan syndrome, Lloeys-Dietz syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, or Turner’s syndrome
- Those who have had part of their aorta replaced and need ongoing surveillance
The Integrated Aortic Program at Saint Alphonsus offers screening for patients that are at risk for aortic disease, including genetic testing and state-of-the-art imaging. If a concern is detected, including leaking valves, blocked or narrowed valves, or an aneurysm, the Heart Care experts at Saint Alphonsus will develop a tailored treatment plan which may include ongoing surveillance or surgical intervention.
