What Should I Do if a Stroke Does Occur?

Know the warning signs of stroke. If you (or someone close to you) experience a stroke symptom, people should NOT call their doctor. They should only call 911. When they call 911, they should ask to be taken to Saint Al’s Primary Stroke Center. The American Stroke Association published a statement in 2007 that said patient who are taken to a Primary Stroke Center have better outcomes than those patients who go to other hospitals.

Emergency care is vital to providing rapid assessment, life support and to help prevent complications. Remember, a stroke is a “brain attack” and should be treated with the same degree of respect as heart attack.
