Telemedicine

Telemedicine NICUThe Saint Alphonsus Telemedicine program helps to improve the overall health assessments of newborn babies born at local hospitals. This program enables physicians to conveniently communicate, face-to-face, with neonatologists at Saint Alphonsus who can remotely conduct examinations and aid in treatment decisions that may stabilize infants who need special care and may also reduce the need to transport the baby out of town.

By using a specialized portable camera and audio connection, neonatologists can perform a visual evaluation of the baby, listen to the baby's heart and lungs through a telephonic stethoscope, consult with the baby's physician and ask questions of the baby's parents.

For babies who do need to be flown to Boise, the telemedicine program can allow family who need to remain in their home town the opportunity to visit and still bond with their baby in our NICU.
