Corrie Cron: It’s Never Too Late to Feel Great
Lap-Band Surgery Patient: Lost 131 Pounds

Corrie After

Corrie battled obesity for 40 years. At 280 pounds she lived in constant pain - physical and emotional. Her joints would strain under the load of even short walks, but it was her low self esteem that kept her home. After losing 131 pounds her suffering is gone. Now a frequent traveler, Corrie enjoys hiking in national parks, climbing ruins in Mexico and being the happiest she’s ever been.

For 40 years Corrie waged a war against her own obesity. Through high school, college and child raising years she battled. Corrie tried an arsenal of pills, diets and weight loss programs. There were minor victories, but the weight always returned. Time and time again the frustrating cycle repeated.

While her failure to lose weight was an emotional strain, at 280 pounds her 5’4” frame strained under the load. Tortured by relentless pain in her joints, feet and back, Corrie’s problems mounted. Surgery was needed on both feet and to replace both knees. As her body failed under the weight her general health declined. “Everything was bad, I couldn’t walk! It affected my whole life, totally.”

But losing her self esteem was the greater casualty. Believing her children were ashamed to be seen with her and fearing how others viewed her, Corrie receded into her self. Being an emotional eater, Corrie consoled herself with food. Horrified by her appearance at her daughter’s wedding she recalls, “My weight controlled everything. My whole life was spiraling down.”

Corrie’s daughter, a nurse at Saint Alphonsus, was struggling with her own obesity. Excited with new hope, she introduced Corrie to LAP-BAND® Surgery. Corrie’s son, a doctor, assured her Lap-Band was the very best solution. After an informative Lap-Band seminar, she and her daughter were convinced this less invasive procedure would be their solution.

The LAP-BAND® Weight-Loss Surgery System is a minimally invasive and adjustable surgical treatment for morbid obesity. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, by the use of a small inflatable implant device that restricts the amount of food that can be consumed. This procedure is fully adjustable, reversible and has fewer risks and side effects.

Two years after surgery Corrie has lost 131 pounds. “I started at size 28 and I’m buying size 8s and 10s…I couldn’t be happier about it.” She also lost the crippling joint pain, endless health problems and demoralizing self image. But there have also been gains; frequent traveling, dining out, playing with her grandchildren and even extra wiggle room in theatre seats. “This really is the best thing I‘ve ever done in my entire life. It has changed everything.”
