"So others may see." These words best describe the purpose of the Idaho Lions Eye Bank. Since 1969, the Idaho Lions Eye Bank has been dedicated to improving, saving or completely restoring sight to those who may benefit from a corneal transplant procedure. The transplant recipients are of no particular segment of society.

But they all have one thing in common; each of them represents a living legacy. The true heroes behind this miracle are the donors who gave and the families who made it possible. The eye donor bestows the ultimate gift to those in need. A direct consequence of their generosity is restoring sight to individuals they never knew.

History

• Corneal transplantation is not new. The first successful human corneal transplant was performed in 1904.
• The first eye bank started in New York in 1945.
• Eye banking in Idaho began in 1969 at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise.
