NICU Follow-up Clinic
The
Saint Alphonsus NICU Follow-Up Clinic is designed to evaluate and monitor
infant and early childhood development of our NICU graduates who are at risk
for abnormal development due to permaturity or illness in the newborn period.
The clinic is provided to patients at no charge and gives parents and physicians
a comprehensive evaluation of the child's current developmental level.
We are able to assess the child's cognitive, motor and speech achievements
and answer any questions regarding development.
NICU graduates will be seen initially at about four months after his/her due date, and then at one, two, and three years after his/her due date. Occasionally, additional visits are needed to assess development more frequently. An occupational therapist and speech therapist will evaluate your child at each visit. In addition, growth measurements and overall medical and developmental history will be obtained by an NICU nurse. Finally, a neonatologist will do a physical exam, explain the findings of the therapists and answer any questions. Each visit takes one and a half hours to complete. A copy of the evaluation will be given to you at the end of the visit and a copy will be sent to the child's doctor.
