Amy L. Cooper, M.D.
Gynecologic Oncologist
Dr. Amy Cooper is a gynecologic oncologist. She graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She completed her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and her gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Cooper is board eligible in gynecology and gynecologic oncology.
Alice M. Forsythe, M.D.
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist
Dr. Forsythe is a 1980 graduate of the University of Illinois College Of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital. She then went to the University of Chicago-Michael Reese Medical Center for her medical oncology and hematology training. Dr. Forsythe went into private practice in Illinois in July 1985. She practiced medical oncology in Coeur d'Alene from 1989 until 1995. In August 1995, Dr. Forsythe began practicing at the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center. Dr. Forsythe is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Forsythe has expertise and experience in a wide range of malignancies and blood disorders. She is currently actively involved in the brain tumor program at Saint Alphonsus.
Stephanie Hodson, M.D.
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist
Dr. Hodson is our breast cancer specialist and the Director of the Saint Alphonsus Comprehensive Breast Care Program. With her expertise, the program provides state-of-the-art breast cancer therapy and participates in ongoing clinical research of promising new therapies. An Idaho native, Dr. Hodson received her medical degree from the University of Washington. She completed her internal medicine training at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, then went on to complete subspecialty training in hematology and medical oncology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. While at OHSU, her research focus was therapy of breast cancer. She received additional training specifically in the therapy of breast cancer at Indiana University Medical Center. She is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. She joined Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center in 2002.
Gerald Perez, M.D.
Gynecologic Oncologist
Dr. Perez, a board-certified gynecologic oncologist, cares for patients at the Cancer Care Center by providing screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and symptom management for women with malignancies of the reproductive tract, such as the ovaries, uterus, endometrium, cervix, vulva and vagina. Dr. Perez received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He followed his degree with an internship and residency at Women's Hospital, Los Angeles County, and University of Southern California Medical Center. He completed his fellowship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
Kerry Pulver, M.D., Ph.D.
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist
Dr. Pulver joined Saint Alphonsus in August 2002. He received a dual degree in medicine and a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1981. After completing his residency training in internal medicine, he went on to complete fellowship training in oncology and hematology, at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. Dr. Pulver is board certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine. He is the principal investigator for the research program at Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center. He has a strong interest in prostate cancer and brain tumors.
Timothy Sawyer, M.D.
Radiation Oncologist
An Idaho native, Dr. Sawyer received his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and his specialty training in radiation oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Sawyer joined the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center in 2000; he is a board-certified radiation oncologist who has earned national distinction for his cancer research. Following his residency at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Sawyer spent four years in the Radiation Oncology Department at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. While there, he also instructed residents at the National Cancer Institute and served as a member of the adjunctive lecturing faculty at nearby Johns Hopkins Medical School. During his time in Washington, D.C., he continued to serve as a co-director for the Mayo Clinic-affiliated North Central Cancer Treatment Group. In 1996, Dr. Sawyer received a national award for performing the most significant clinical research in the United States as a resident in radiation oncology. He has written many cancer articles and textbook chapters and is often asked to give presentations at national and international meetings.
Karl Schultheiss, M.D.
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist
Dr. Schultheiss joined Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center in 2002. He received his M.D. from the University of Freiburg, Germany, where he also served as a post-doctoral research fellow. Dr. Schultheiss completed his internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, and his residency at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, OR. He completed his oncology/hematology fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is strongly interested in clinical trials and has a special interest in lung, gastrointestinal and lymphoid malignancies. Dr. Schultheiss is board-certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine.
Jennifer Shalz, M.D.
Internal Medicine
Dr. Shalz received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston in 1994 graduating with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. She went on to complete an Internal Medicine residency with the U.S. Air Force as an active duty officer at David Grant Medical Center/Travis AFB in California in affiliation with the University of California at Davis School of Medicine. She was assigned to serve as an active duty officer at Scott AFB, IL in 1997 working as a clinical teaching faculty member for medical students and residents through the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Upon separation from active duty military service in 2000 Dr. Shalz worked at the Edward J. Hines, Jr. VA Medical Center in Hines, IL near Chicago and served as Medical Director of the Emergency Room. There she provided training to medical students and residents as a clinical teaching faculty member through Loyola University School of Medicine. In 2002 Dr. Shalz began her practice at the Portland VA Medical Center in OR until transferring to the Boise VA Medical Center in 2005 where she worked as a clinical teaching faculty member for the University of Washington School of Medicine. She joined our St. Al's Cancer Care Center in February of 2008 as an adjunct to the Radiation Oncology Team.
