Registry Facts & Figures

Our cancer registry collects data on all patients diagnosed and/or treated for cancer at Saint Alphonsus. Registry data is based on documentation found in the inpatient and outpatient medical records, and data is accessioned into the registry using the standards of the Commission on Cancer Facility Oncology Registry (FORDS). We maintain an excellent level of data quality in our registry and provide data to assist with program planning.

We have Certified Tumor Registrars (CTRs) on staff, and in addition to collecting cancer data, the registrars also help facilitate weekly Tumor Board conferences, quarterly Cancer Conferences and Cancer Committees. Our cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program, and the cancer registry helps maintain documentation for accreditation surveys.

Cancer data from Saint Alphonsus is downloaded to the Cancer Data Registry of Idaho (CDRI), an organization that collects cancer data from all Idaho hospitals and compiles an annual report entitled “Cancer in Idaho.” CDRI's data quality was audited by a national firm in 2001, and Saint Alphonsus participated in this audit. Data quality was found to be excellent, and CDRI maintains one of the top-ranked cancer registries in the nation.
