Since 1992, the Cancer Care Center's diverse team of cancer professionals, including oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and referring specialists, have collaborated to educate and empower cancer patients, so patients can actively participate in their own healing and make informed treatment decisions that are based on their individual needs.
Cancer Research & Clinical Trials
The Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center now collaborates with the Michigan Cancer Research Consortium, a research cooperative group administered by our Trinity Health partner, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Through this affiliation, Saint Alphonsus hospital is able to offer over 100 cancer clinical trials to our patients. Clinical cancer research investigates better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Taking part in a clinical trial has many possible benefits including access to newer cancer treatments and drugs, cancer prevention and cancer control trials that are not otherwise generally available.
When participating in a cancer clinical study, patients work with a specialized team of doctors, nurses, social workers, dieticians and other healthcare professionals to monitor their care and progress. By taking part in clinical trials, patients are able to make informed decisions and take an active role in their healthcare.
