High Blood Pressure also known as Hypertension affects greater than 75 million Americans. Hypertension has no symptoms. Over time, it can damage your heart and other organs. This is why hypertension is often called the "silent killer". The prevention, treatment and control of high blood pressure levels are essential to living a long and active life.

Saint Alphonsus is proud to have the only board certified cardiologist in hypertension in Idaho, J. Antonio G. López, MD, FACC, FAHA, FACP, FNLA, FASH . Dr. López   is designated a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension (ASH).  He is the only Fellow of the American Society of Hypertension (FASH) in Idaho. Dr. Lopez is the Director of the Hypertension Consultation Service at Saint Alphonsus Medical Group Heart Care. What is Hypertension?

Blood pressure is the force of your blood moving through your arteries. High blood pressure is when your blood pressure higher than it should be. It is called hypertension. A normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. Prehypertension is 120/80 to 139/89. High blood pressure (hypertension) is 140/90 and higher.

Why is it important to manage your blood pressure?

High blood pressure if not controlled may result to damage to your eyes, brain, heart, blood vessels and kidneys.
