Brain Injury Program

Welcome to the Inpatient Brain Injury Program at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center . We are located on the hospital's 4-West floor. The Brain Injury Program consists of a highly experienced, skilled team of therapists specializing in assisting people recover from brain injury.

The trauma of brain injury may cross the entire spectrum of medical, physical, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and psychological problems. Because of this, Saint Alphonsus provides a team of rehabilitation professionals who have specialized training in the treatment of individuals with brain injuries. The team works together in a collaborative manner to meet the needs of each patient and family.

Our Commitment to Quality

Recognized as a regional leader in the treatment of traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries, the Brain Injury Program at Saint Alphonsus was established  to help people rebuild their lives after a brain injury. Our high patient volume and diverse patient population means our team of experts is experienced in treating all types of brain injuries, including the most complex cases. Our ongoing data shows that patients who have completed this program have a higher rate of return to home and community than the average national statistics.

At Saint Alphonsus, we are serious about providing quality care and finding ways to continually improve our services. We voluntarily undergo a challenging comprehensive evaluation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) every three years. We consistently receive JCAHO's "stamp of approval" meeting a long list of rigorous performance standards ensuring the safety and quality of care provided. Accreditation is just one more sign of our excellence and commitment to providing quality patient care. You as a consumer can be confident that we exceed industry standards.

Our Continuum of Care

Saint Alphonsus provides the only full continuum for the care of people with brain injury in the region. This continuum provides an interdisciplinary coordinated continuum of care for all levels of brain injury and includes:

  1. The region's only Level II Trauma Center.
  2. Intensive Care Unit.
  3. Acute neurological treatment unit.
  4. Collaborative inpatient brain injury rehabilitation unit.
  5. Integrated outpatient brain injury treatment program (STARS).
  6. Home health services.

This means that each patients care can be managed from the initial acute care stage, through the rehabilitation stage, to the outpatient setting where follow-up services continue to assist patients in maintaining a healthy and independent lifestyle.
