Many patients admitted with the diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia received a laboratory test called "blood cultures" in the emergency department before they received antibiotics. Blood cultures can help detect which organism is causing a patient's infection. Receive blood cultures may not be indicated in some pneumonia patients.
