Organ Donation "Medal of Honor" for 2006 Awarded by HHS
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognizes Saint Alphonsus for high rate of organ conversion for the second year in a row, with an average of 3.88 organs per donor in 2006; HHS guidelines strive for 3.75 organs. Hospital honorees had to achieve and sustain at least a 75 percent donation rate from eligible donors for at least one year; the national average donation rate in all hospitals was 59 percent.
