Our Technology
State-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
The
cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory at Saint Alphonsus
is a state-of-the-art center treating patients throughout Idaho and eastern
Oregon. All staff hold advanced certification as cardiovascular technologists
in addition to their clinical training programs. The laboratory meets or exceeds
clinical indicators established by the American College of Cardiology and the
American Heart Association, in conjunction with the Center for Medicare Services.
The cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory
at Saint Alphonsus uses filmless digital acquisition technology. This is a
significant technical advancement in cardiac data management. With a few keystrokes
on the computer, physicians can review digital images of the patient's heart.
Exams can also be viewed on a terminal in the operating room while the patient
undergoes surgery. All digital images are stored indefinitely and can be retrieved
and reviewed at any time.
Saint Alphonsus owns two of the most up-to-date cardiac imaging systems in
the nation. One is specifically designed for cardiac and peripheral angiography,
giving physicians image quality that is far superior to anything that has been
available in the past. This allows physicians to be able to see and treat coronary
lesions with more accuracy and precision, as well as reducing the amount of
radiation for the patient.
The imaging equipment allows cardiologists to place the smaller devices more
precisely within the coronary artery. It is a fitting companion for the advanced
cardiac treatments being performed at Saint Alphonsus today. While both systems
are very similar, one has the capability of doing all types of angiographic
imaging in arteries throughout the body.
The cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory at Saint Alphonsus is located on the third floor of the North Tower Heart & Vascular Center.
